album of the week

"a wolf in sheep's clothing"
black sheep
1994

Black Sheep are a rap duo from The Bronx, New York that were also part of the Native Tongues Posse, which included The Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. They are best known for the hit "The Choice Is Yours", and revered in the hip-hop community for their unique and intelligent rhythms and songs.

The two members, Andres "Dres" Titus and William "Mista Lawnge" McLean, charted 3 times on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1992 with "The Choice Is Yours" (#9), "Stroblite Honey" (#1) and as featured rappers on Vanessa Williams' "Work To Do" (#8).

i agree. a fantastic pick for album of the week. yet at the same time i present the 2015 readers with the following travesty…www.jcpallaccess.com (*turn up your headphones)

truly, a sad day for the Native Tongues Posse.

yeah, it's weird, but i bet mr. lawnge can use the residuals right about now.

believe it or not black sheep was my first hip-hop show. well, not headlining. they were third billing behind das efx and digital underground.

in any case this isn't as god awful as the "i like BACK PACKS and i can not lie" track by sir-mix-a-lot. obviously the source material was retarded to begin with in that case but at least we can be thankful jcpenny just rolled the track as is.

"i gotta go i gotta go i gotta go!"

the most sad thing about it is...that very jc penny commercial was what provided me with the stimulus to dig in the crates and revisit this mid-90's gem. i shall hope for better days when my own, hopefully none commercialized brain, may guide me down the proper paths of hip-hop freedom.

engine engine number nine....
